Dancing Georgia Doctor Found Not Liable for Malpractice
In a recent legal development, anesthesiologist Dr. Roland Pinkney was exonerated in a medical malpractice lawsuit in Georgia. The suit stemmed from a 2017 incident where Dr. Pinkney was recorded dancing during a liposuction procedure on patient Latoya Rideau. While Dr. Pinkney faced accusations of unprofessional conduct, a state court jury determined he was not liable for damages. The jury instead found fault with Dr. Windell Boutte, who was not a party to the civil suit but was implicated in the malpractice.
Post-verdict, Dr. Pinkney expressed remorse for his participation in the video. Meanwhile, Dr. Boutte, who had shared the video on social media, encountered significant legal challenges following its viral spread. She faced multiple lawsuits from former patients alleging malpractice and negligence, which led to the suspension of her medical license and a financial penalty for unperformed procedures. Despite the controversies, Dr. Boutte maintained that the videos were filmed with patient consent, a claim disputed by Rideau. Dr. Boutte asserted her ability to multitask as a surgeon, defending her professional conduct amidst the scrutiny.
