Family Recovers $31.9 Million After Hospital Intubation Mistake
In 2018, a patient died at a hospital in Florida allegedly due to a botched intubation.
What Happened? The complaint alleged that the patient had an unnecessary and poorly done intubation. The procedure starved his brain of oxygen, causing irreversible damage, and he died before trial from complications.
Legal Battle: The family sued the hospital, and as often happens, the attorneys for the family found discrepancies in the hospital’s records.
Hospital Negligence: The hospital denied responsibility, but the jury found otherwise. The patient’s daughter received a $30 million award for pain and suffering and loss of the companionship and guidance of her father. There was also a recovery of an additional $1.9 million for economic losses, including medical expenses, funeral expenses and loss of financial support.
This case emphasizes the need for accountability and transparency in healthcare practices.
