Billions in Opioid Settlements Distributed To Governments

State and local governments are receiving massive amounts of settlement money from companies involved in the opioid crisis. Here’s what you need to know:

  1. The Situation: Companies accused of fueling the opioid crisis are paying settlements to state and local governments, and over $4.3 billion has already gone to government coffers.  Much more is coming.  It’s hard to know how much each city, county, or state has been getting, because most recipients do not post this information publicly.
  2. Transparency Efforts: If you want to find out how much your city, county, or state government has received, BrownGreer, the firm handling the settlements distributions, has recently started sharing this data, and updates it regularly on a public website: https://www.nationalopioidofficialsettlement.com/Home/StateAllocationAmounts
