Plaintiffs Lose Cook County Cardiac Malpractice Case

The plaintiffs sued a cardiologist and his medical group arising from a procedure to place a defibrillator placement procedure.  There were several allegations including that the defendants failed to properly diagnose pericardial effusion and impending cardiac tamponade, performed and unnecessary pericardiocentesis, injured the patient’s left ventricle during the pericardiocentesis, and failed to properly diagnose and treat a vagal reaction.

The found in favor of the defendants after a 5-hour jury deliberation. It is unknown if an appeal will be filed.
