$1.7 Million Recovery Arising from Inappropriate Attempts at Epidural

A patient and her husband were recently awarded over $1.7 million after a jury found that an anesthesiologist was negligent in performing an epidural procedure and making additional attempts after being asked by the patient to stop. The patient sustained nerve damage to her left leg and lower back from the multiple attempts to perform the procedure. Damages claimed at trial included ongoing pain and reduced quality of life, as well as her husband’s loss of consortium. The defendant denied liability and made no offers to settle the case prior to trial.

The case, was tried before a jury in Lenawee County, Michigan, and highlights the importance of medical consent and the impact of medical negligence.
